Chapter 18: Endocrine and Reproductive System

The Endocrine System

The endocrine system is a network of endocrine glands that are situated throughout your body. Endocrine glands are organs that send hormones into the bloodstream. Hormones are chemical substances that are produced in endocrine glands and help aid some certain functions in the body.

There are two types of endocrine glands. These are the pituitary glands and the adrenal glands.

You should take care of your endocrine system because if the endocrine glands don't function correctly and the hormones do not do what they are supposed to then bad consequences can follow such as diseases like Graves' disease, diabetes, goiter, and growth defects.

The pituitary glands control all the endocrine gland. Think about it as in a computer hard drive. You have the master and the slave jumper in which both work together but one controls the other. The pituitary gland works the same way by controlling the adrenal glands.

The adrenal glands help the body to get out of stressful situations and come with a response to them.

The Reproductive System

The only way life can go on on Earth is by reproduction. The reproductive system is the system of organs involved in producting offspring. There are two main parts to the reproductive system: the male reproductive system and the female reproductive system.

The male reproductive system consists of external and internal organs. External organs include the testes, which produce sperm, are located in the scrotum.

The penis is the organ that releases semen in which sperm is contained.

To make sure your sex organs are healthy you should see a doctor regularly, have good personal hygiene and practice abstinence to avoid contracting STDs.

The female reproductive system consists of internal organs, which include the ovaries where the female sex hormone is produced.

External organs include the vagina, which is a passageway from the uterus to the outside of the body.

Processes such as menstruation is part of the menstrual cycle where the shedding of the uterus lining occurs is normal and occurs during puberty.
